License

Helmet
Riders and passengers under 16 on any bicycle must wear a helmet; this likely extends to e-bikes, which carry the same duties as bicycles.
Minimum age
You must be at least 16 to operate a Class 3 e-bike; younger people may ride as a passenger on one built for passengers. There is no state minimum age for Class 1 or 2. (Class 3)

Sidewalks
State law says no one may drive any vehicle on a sidewalk, and e-bikes are 'deemed a vehicle'; how this applies to bicycles and e-bikes isn't spelled out, so check local rules and assume sidewalks are off-limits.

The statute says 'less than 750 watts' (max_w recorded as 749). A self-propelled vehicle that isn't an 'electric bicycle' is a motor vehicle, and one with a seat on no more than 3 wheels is a 'motorcycle'. If it has 5 bhp or less and weighs under 200 lb, or is 'any bicycle with a motor attached', it is a 'motor-driven cycle'. That needs a Class M license (a restricted Class M is available from age 14 after a knowledge test or safety course), a DOT helmet and shoes for every rider, and the usual motor-vehicle registration and insurance. On the literal text, a 3-wheel e-trike could fall here.
